L'histoire

LA SONNERIE " AUX MORTS " 

Il est peu connu que la sonnerie "Aux Morts", réglementaire dans l'Armée française, est due à une initiative du Général Gouraud.
Lors de ses visites à l'étranger, en Angleterre et aux Etats Unis en particulier, il avait été frappé par l'impact qu'avaient les sonneries "LAST POST" et "TAPS" sur les participants aux cérémonies de souvenirs aux Morts. 
Il prit l'initiative de faire composer par le chef de la musique de la Garde Républicaine une sonnerie appropriée.
Il la fit exécuter lors de la cérémonie de ravivage de la Flamme de l'Arc de Triomphe le 14 juillet 1932, en présence du Ministre de la Guerre et lui proposa sur-le-champ qu'elle devienne réglementaire.
Nous reproduisons ci-dessous la proposition officielle du général Gouraud au Ministre de la Guerre et la partition dédicacée par le Commandant Dupont, chef de la musique de la Garde Républicaine.
